WHAT A WAY TO WIN IT!!! ⚒️Fiorentina 1-2 West Ham United
Their travel support throughout the season has mostly been positive, so it's disgraceful to see West Ham fans throwing missiles at Fiorentina players.
The objects thrown were mainly plastic bottles, but just before halftime, at least one dangerous object caused serious injury to Fiorentina captain Cristian Biraghi, prompting referee Carlos del Cerro Grande to briefly stop the game and appeal to the fans to cease throwing missiles through the stadium's public address system. UEFA's investigation is sure to follow.
On Fiorentina's next corner kick, Christian Kouame's header was saved by the post, and Luka Jovic grabbed the rebound, but West Ham United, especially goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, breathed a sigh of relief as he was ruled offside.
West Ham occasionally posed a threat on the counterattack in the first half, but Michail Antonio's low shot was saved by Pietro Terracciano, and Craig Dawson's shot deflected off Vladimir Coufal's goal-line clearance.
Del Cerro Grande made some questionable decisions that frustrated West Ham, but even the eccentric Spanish referee couldn't deny their penalty appeal after reviewing the pitchside monitor for an hour.
