Liverpool transfer news as $66m option tops 'six-man list'
Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)
Joshua Kimmich is keen on a reunion with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, despite recent links with Liverpool, according to the Daily Star. The Reds, Manchester City and Manchester United are all said to be monitoring the midfielder’s situation at Bayern Munich, with a January move set to cost them around $64m (£50m/€58m).
Manchester City, though, plans to wait until the summer, when that figure is expected to drop to around $32m (£25m/€29m). Kimmich is said to be aware of the European champion’s interest, with Guardiola also a huge admirer of his.
Liverpool.com says: Kimmich would be an interesting signing for Liverpool. Considering he can play defensive midfield or right-back, he could be an ideal addition, offering another option in two positions that would still seem to be of interest to the Reds.
If City really is interested though, chances are Guardiola will get his man. That would make them significantly stronger, given they struggle without Rodri, but it wouldn’t exactly be a long-term solution given Kimmich will be 29 in the summer.
Gonçalo Inácio (Sporting CP)
Gonçalo Inácio has been placed at the top of Liverpool’s January transfer list, according to Caught Offside. The Sporting CP defender has been linked with the Reds for some time, with rumors set to go into overdrive this month.
Liverpool ideally needs a new defender, with Joël Matip out for the rest of the season, while Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas’ absences have left the Reds down to the bare bones. With that in mind, the club is said to have drawn up a list of six targets across varying positions, with Inácio at the top.
Khéphren Thuram and Manu Koné also feature, along with Schalke's 17-year-old Assan Ouédraogo. Pedro Neto and Johan Bakayoko make up the attacking options on the list.
Liverpool.com says: A defender has to be the main priority at the moment, and Inácio is perhaps the most impressive of the names that have been linked in that area. With a release clause of $66m (£52m/€60m), it might be a big ask, but it would arguably be an even bigger risk if Liverpool were to not buy a new defender this month.
