Manchester City director Txiki Begiristain will step down at the end of this season
According to an exclusive report by renowned journalist David Ornstein, Manchester City director Txiki Begiristain will step down at the end of this season.
The report states that the 60-year-old Begiristain had originally planned to step away from the club's day-to-day operations at the age of 55. However, due to his commitment to Manchester City's project and his collaboration with coach Pep Guardiola, he extended that timeline to 60. This decision was made with the full understanding and approval of the club's senior management. It is reported that Manchester City has already reached an agreement to appoint a replacement, who will take office in early 2025. Begiristain played a leading role in the recruitment of his successor and will continue to fulfill his duties for the first six months after the handover.
During his playing career, Begiristain represented teams such as Barcelona and Real Sociedad. After retiring, he served as Barcelona’s football director from 2003 to 2010, helping the club win four La Liga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies.
In 2012, Begiristain joined Premier League newcomers Manchester City, reuniting with his old partner Guardiola. During his tenure, Manchester City won seven Premier League titles. In the 2022-23 season, the club finally claimed its long-awaited first UEFA Champions League title.
