Iniesta releases retirement teaser video
On his personal social media, 40-year-old Andres Iniesta posted a video to preview his upcoming press conference on October 8. The video features interview clips with Pep Guardiola, Vicente del Bosque, Louis van Gaal, and Luis Enrique.
Iniesta captioned the video: "The game continues." However, previous media reports have suggested that he may announce his retirement. Facing the camera, a journalist asked, "What does football mean to you?" Iniesta didn't say much but shed tears.
Luis Enrique said: "Do you know what came to my mind? I thought about how we felt as kids playing on the streets. After it got dark and you couldn't see the ball anymore, your mom would call you: 'Come inside! Come inside!' That's Andrés Iniesta. He's 40 years old but still isn't sure, 'Should I keep playing?'"
Louis van Gaal remarked: "He didn't always have the physical strength that other players had... but his mind was always focused on football." Pep Guardiola shared: "Andrés is one of the most important talents. At that time, we had only earned one point from six games, and we were close to relegation. Then a player like Andrés tells you, 'You're on the right path.' Everyone was happy. Everything will be okay. Everything will be okay. Wow! That gave me the strength to keep going. I'll always be grateful—very grateful."
Vicente del Bosque reflected: "In an away match at Espanyol's stadium, Barcelona was leading 4-1 or 5-1, and he earned a standing ovation from the entire crowd. I think that moment perfectly captured the admiration people had for him."
