European Club Association (ECA) officially announced the extension of its partnership with UEFA until 2033

Official announcement from the European Club Association:
The European Club Association (ECA), representing over 700 clubs from 55 countries across Europe, and UEFA, the governing body of European football, today announced the extension of their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), continuing their long-term partnership until 2033.

The agreement was signed during the 31st ECA General Assembly in Athens, Greece, following the MoU signed during the 30th General Assembly in Berlin. This latest collaboration further solidifies the framework of cooperation between UEFA and the ECA.

During the signing ceremony, ECA Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi and UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin reaffirmed their more than 15-year partnership, which has been the foundation for the development, stability, and success of European club football.

The renewed MoU confirms the ECA's recognition of UEFA as the governing body of European football, while UEFA acknowledges the ECA as the sole representative body for clubs in Europe and globally.

The renewal of this long-term agreement highlights the increasingly strong relationship between the two organizations, which in recent years have cooperated on key issues in European club football, from new competition formats and revenue distribution structures to financial sustainability regulations.

In the past year, UEFA and the ECA have reached landmark agreements on crucial topics, including a significant increase in funds allocated to non-participating clubs during the 2024-27 cycle of UEFA men’s club competitions. The share has risen from 4% to 7% of an expected revenue threshold of €4.4 billion, meaning €308 million per year (up from €176 million) will be distributed to clubs not participating in European competitions (plus an additional €132 million for clubs failing to qualify).

The two organizations have also partnered with the European Football Supporters Association to reduce ticket price caps for away fans in the UEFA men’s club competitions during the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons, emphasizing the importance of fans to European club competitions.

On the commercial side, the new MoU until 2033 ensures that the ECA and UEFA will continue to work closely through their joint venture, UEFA Club Competitions SA, which manages the commercial aspects of UEFA club competitions.

At the signing ceremony, ECA Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: "The renewal of the MoU between the ECA and UEFA, extending our partnership until 2033, is great news for all European clubs and the future stability and development of European football."

“The MoU strengthens our collaboration with UEFA on governance, representation, sporting, regulatory, financial, and commercial matters, ensuring the continued development and success of competitions at all levels.”

“With ECA membership now exceeding 715 clubs from 55 countries across Europe, we are delighted to deepen our relationship of trust with UEFA, the only representative body for clubs in Europe.”

UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin added: “Our partnership with the ECA forms the basis of an inclusive, sustainable, and vibrant ecosystem that benefits the entire European football pyramid.”
“We are committed to jointly enhancing the global impact of UEFA club competitions while ensuring that clubs of all sizes and regions continue to thrive on and off the pitch.”   The extension of this MoU will ensure the continued growth, stability, and prosperity of European football for the benefit of clubs, players, and fans across the continent.
